Behind Fearless Projects

HOW IT STARTED

Lance and Claire founded Fearless Projects in 2019 with a shared vision: to enable both amateur and professional sailors to explore some of the most iconic and remote regions of the world. Their journey began with the purchase of the legendary Volvo 70 race yacht, Telefonica Black.

Through Telefonica Black, they had the opportunity to compete in some of the world’s most prestigious races, including the Fastnet Race, the Rolex Middle Sea Race, the Caribbean 600, the ARC, and numerous ocean crossings. In the process, they also became proud winners of the inaugural IRC Super Zero class, a testament to the skill, teamwork, and determination that defined their approach to sailing.

But their journey was not without its challenges. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Lance and Claire found themselves in Antigua, where they took it upon themselves to help 12 stranded sailors return home to the UK. It was a challenging time, and the uncertainty of the pandemic required quick thinking and compassion. Sadly, after the pandemic and following a significant mishap—a snapped mast—the team had to wrap up the Telefonica Black project.

Despite these setbacks, Fearless Projects was sustained through the generosity of friends, clients, and supporters, and after much dedication and effort, they were able to pass Telefonica on to a new life.

In the two years since, Lance and Claire have worked tirelessly to find the right project to continue their mission. When they found this 64-foot ketch, Lance was ecstatic—this was his perfect boat. Having admired and coveted this design for years, Lance knew it was the ideal vessel for their next chapter in ocean exploration. With a deep sense of excitement and purpose, they’ve set their sights on a new era for Fearless Projects—one focused on adventure, expedition sailing, and the exploration of the world’s most remote and far-flung destinations.

After years of hard work and planning, Lance's long-time dream of an expedition yacht has come to fruition. This vision is embodied in RESOLUTE, a purpose-built expedition yacht designed for long-distance cruising and adventure. Currently moored in Subic Bay, Philippines, she’s preparing for an epic voyage to bring her home to the UK, with planned stops along the way that allow people to hop on and hop off at various points, making it the perfect opportunity for both novice and experienced sailors to join in on the adventure.

Once back in the UK, Fearless Projects will take part in the legendary Fastnet Race, and then the boat will make her way up to the Hebrides in Scotland, offering whisky tours, wildlife safaris, and photography trips. But that’s just the beginning—2026 will see us setting sail toward Iceland and Greenland, and by 2027, the Northwest Passage will be our next challenge.

And the adventure doesn’t stop there. After completing the Northwest Passage, we plan to continue our exploration of the world’s most remote and fascinating places, starting with the Pacific Islands. Then, we’ll set sail for a full lap around the globe, with adventure and far-flung destinations as the cornerstone of the journey. The world is vast, and we plan to explore every corner of it.

RESOLUTE

Our 64-foot ketch, RESOLUTE, is a vessel designed by renowned naval architect Steve Dashew and built by Sundeer Yachts. The Sundeer 64 is known for its blend of safety, performance, and comfort—making her an ideal choice for bluewater cruising and long-term expeditions. With her proven design and cutting-edge features, RESOLUTE is an outstanding example of practical innovation, combining the latest technology with decades of maritime expertise.

Design & Build

The Sundeer 64 was designed with an emphasis on ease of handling, safety, and offshore capability. The yacht features three watertight compartments for maximum safety, providing peace of mind on long passages and in challenging conditions. The large pilothouse provides a comfortable, protected space for navigation and living, whether you’re in open water or seeking shelter in port.

The yacht’s moderate displacement and long waterline give her excellent speed under sail, while the robust fin keel and balanced ketch rig ensure easy handling in all weather. Whether cruising on the Mediterranean or across the Pacific, RESOLUTE excels in performance and comfort.

Performance & Cruising Capabilities

RESOLUTE is fast and efficient, boasting a 140 HP Yanmar diesel engine capable of reaching speeds of up to 9.5 knots under power. Under sail, her long waterline and well-balanced rig allow her to cruise comfortably at 8 knots, with excellent upwind performance.

She is also equipped for extended, autonomous cruising, with a fuel capacity of 1,325 liters (350 gallons) and a water capacity of 2,080 liters (550 gallons). Additionally, her 1680Ah battery bank, supported by solar panels and a water maker, ensures that RESOLUTE can remain self-sufficient for long periods, ideal for remote and far-flung destinations.

  • Sailing at ten plus knots in 12 – 14 kts of breeze at 40 degrees true wind angle ahead of the beam is commonplace and very comfortable. Off the wind, double figures can be expected after about 15 kts true wind.

  • Cool in the tropics and warm in cold climes, livability is un-matched.

  • Average fuel consumption 4.2 ltr /hour combined usage past 8 years

  • Motoring speeds 8.5 kts cruise, 10.5 kts maximum in full cruising trim.

  • Approximate Range under power 1,600 NM, motor sailing well over 2,000 NM

  • Best sustained speed while sailing, 52 hours over 14 knots, max speed achieved under sail, 17 knots, average cruising speed under sail 8-10 knots.

Accommodation & Comfort

On board, RESOLUTE provides a spacious and comfortable living environment. She is designed to accommodate 6 guests in total, with 2 double cabins and 1 twin cabin featuring bunks. In addition, there are bunks for 4 crew members—ensuring ample space for both guests and crew during long voyages.

The 6'6" headroom in the saloon and cabins ensures plenty of space for all crew members. The large pilothouse is a particularly notable feature—offering panoramic views, protection from the elements, and a well-organized navigation station. Below deck, the yacht features a well-appointed interior with comfortable cabins, a galley, and a saloon, making her perfect for long-term cruising or extended stays at sea.

Her cockpit is located aft for easy access to the water and convenient handling while underway. The fiberglass deck and sturdy construction ensure that she can handle harsh conditions while still offering a smooth, comfortable ride.
