The Med Explorer – La Linea to Malta 4th – 15th October 2022

Experience the thrill of sailing on a high-performance Volvo Ocean 70 while honing your skills, building your miles and exploring the Mediterranean. This trip is open to everyone whether you are a novice or an experienced sailor.

The Boat

Telefonica Black is a stripped-out racing boat with very few luxuries, so please expect freeze-dried food – as the galley consists of a sink and 1 camping stove for boiling water and a very exciting gimbled heads!

We like to be fully inclusive and give amateur sailors the chance to participate in all aspects of sailing the boat – we can assure you; you will not just be sitting on the rail.

The Experience

Dates: Tuesday 4th – Saturday 15th October 2022

This 1000 mile adventure can take us to many amazing places, possible stops along the way include Cartagena, Alcante, Balearic Islands, Cagliari and Palermo.
As the Med can be a fickle beast and you never know if it will be upwind, downwind or everything in between we have allowed 12 days for this trip. If the winds are in our favour we will stop more frequently and explore some amazing destinations.
We have a professional Skipper and crew to keep you safe and help you with all aspects of life on board, from helming to navigation.
This trip is fantastic for anyone who wants to practice their passage planning as there are so many different parameters and you can learn in real-time.
On day one after the deck and safety briefing, we will download the weather, get the charts out and decide our stopovers.
For us this is the best type of sailing, exploring as we go, making passage and having fun.

You get to experience work in a watch system, sample the delights of freeze-dried food and really get an idea of what it is like to race Telefonica Black. It is a great opportunity if you would like to get a taste of offshore sailing/racing but with the convenience of stopping in a marina now and again!

Don’t think this will be a luxury ride though! Such a high-performance racing yacht does not come with many creature comforts. Cramped quarters, freeze-dried food and basic accommodation are the trade-off!

We do it just as the elite ocean racers do so you truly get a genuine experience.

When we get to Malta, we will be berthing in Gardens Marina, which is just along the road from The Royal Malta Yacht Club, 20 minutes from Valletta.
