RORC Myth of Malham 1st – 4th June 2022

One of the most popular RORC races, this race around Eddystone Lighthouse provides a challenging course due to some of the most complex tidal gates around headlands including Portland Bill and Start Point. Not only does this allow for an interesting race but also a thrilling downwind sail back to the finish! This race also gives sailors the opportunity to experience the first part of the Rolex Fastnet Race course.

Meals ashore and travel to and from ports is not included.

The Boat

Telefonica Black is a stripped-out racing boat with very few luxuries, so please expect high side hot bunking, freeze-dried food – as the galley consists of a sink and 1 camping stove for boiling water and a very exciting gimbled heads!

We like to be fully inclusive and give amateur sailors the chance to participate in all aspects of sailing the boat – we can assure you; you will not just be sitting on the rail.

The Race – Myth of Malham (Eddystone)

This course will take us West around the Eddystone lighthouse off Plymouth and back to Cowes. This is a longer RORC race weekend at around 230nM. This race is a rollercoaster of a ride, comprising of an upwind sail to the lighthouse followed by a downhill spinnaker ride back to Cowes.

Training Day: Wednesday 1st June 2022

Race Start: Thursday 2nd June 2022

Meeting at Telefonica Black’s home port of Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth for a day of training before an early start on Thursday morning to head to Cowes and race start. The race normally takes 2 days, returning to Portsmouth on Saturday.

The training day will focus on a safety brief, deck brief, MOB drills and sail changes.

There will be a Skipper, and 2 watch leaders onboard.

When you book onto one of our races you are fully committing yourself, you are not a passenger on this boat. We really feel strongly that this is your boat to race and we facilitate that in every way we can. We keep the boat running, look after you, keep you fed and watered and provide support on all the watches.

You are split into 2 watches. On short races, they are 3-hour watches and on longer races, they are 4 hours. The skipper floats between both watches and is always on hand if you need him. The watch leaders help you in all aspects of the deck, from sail changes to evolutions. They have experience on the yacht and will keep you safe and competitive.

For more information and the history of the race please visit the RORC Myth of Malham Race website.
