RORC Caribbean 600 Race 17th – 24th February 2023

If you haven’t raced offshore in the Caribbean before, this is a must – sleeping on the rail is a lot less grim when the temperatures are in the mid-20s! This is one to race hard and party even harder, as the social afterwards in Antigua is legendary. This 600 nautical mile race circumnavigates 11 Caribbean Islands starting from English Harbour, Antigua and then heads north as far as St Martin and south to Guadeloupe taking in Barbuda, Nevis, St Kitts, Saba and St Barth’s.

This package includes:

  • Skipper
  • 2 x Watch leader
  • Pre-departure Safety Briefing
  • On board training
  • Your bunk
  • Team shirt
  • Marina and Berthing fees
  • Food onboard while racing and training
  • Lifejacket
  • Wet weather gear
  • Race entry fees

Meals ashore and travel to and from ports is not included.

The Boat

Telefonica Black is a stripped out racing boat with very few luxuries, so please expect high side hot bunking, freeze dried food – as the galley consists of a sink and 1 camping stove for boiling water and a very exciting gimbled heads!

We like to be fully inclusive and give amateur sailors the chance to participate in all aspects of sailing the boat – we can assure you; you will not just be sitting on the rail.

The Course – Caribbean 600

The 600nm course starts just off Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua and then meanders northbound through the island, before taking a sharp turn South at St. Martin. If the trade winds are doing what they should it’s spinnakers up for the longest leg in the race, down to Guadalupe.

Passing around the south of the French island, we battle to avoid a formidable wind shadow, before passing Antigua for one final victory lap back to Barbuda, a quick gybe at Redonda, then finishing back at Nelson’s Dockyard.

Race Start: Monday 20th February 2023

Arrive in English Harbour, Antigua where you’ll be introduced to the boat, professional crew, and get to meet your fellow sailors!

The training will focus on a safety brief, deck, hoisting, winch and backstay briefs, MOB drills and sail changes.

There will be a Skipper and 2 watch leaders onboard.

When you book onto one of our races you are fully committing yourself, you are not a passenger on this boat. We really feel strongly that this is your boat to race and we facilitate that in every way we can. We keep the boat running, look after you, keep you fed and watered and provide support on all the watches.

You are split into 2 watches. They are 4-hour watches and the skipper floats between both watches and is always on hand if you need him. The watch leaders help you in all aspects of the deck, from sail changes to evolutions. They have experience on the yacht and will keep you safe and competitive. They also do all the cooking and cleaning so you get to focus on racing.

For more information and the history of the race please visit the Caribbean 600 website.
